The harvesters arrived on the 12th of May this year and I've put together a short video to show you how they harvest the olives. (Please note the video will not work on mobile devices.) One of the reasons we are able to produce such high quality EVOO is because of the speed in which we harvest and get the olives processed. We harvested Sunday afternoon and most of Monday, processed the olives Monday afternoon and packaged our Straight From The Press on Monday night. Tuesday morning (less than 24 hours since harvesting finished) the oil was delivered to the Post Office for all of those that pre-ordered, and by lunch time we had delivered all of our local orders also. What we didn't allocate to Straight From The Press is now settling in giant airtight bladders. We will remove the sediment in July and by August our 2014 Premium EVOO will be available. Straight From The Press TipsThank you to everyone who purchased our favourite product this year. We had a limit on the amount available as we were expecting a small harvest and we wanted to make sure we had enough oil left over for our Premium range. As a result we sold out about 3 days before harvest but we'll have plenty more available next year. Just a few tips for those that did purchase it:
Old Olive Oil - FREEWe have about 200L of old olive oil and sediment in a large metallic bladder that we would like to give away to anyone who can pick it up from the farm. The oil/sediment is still safe to consume but it is not as good in quality. It's best use would be for soap making or to feed horses to improve coat condition, or you may have other uses for it.
